Windscreens / Decorative borders
Windbreaks or windscreens have multiple uses, including:

-
Protecting fragile buds and fruits from blowing off in excessive winds.
-
Obscure orchards from the highway (reduces noise and also the visibility of the orchards - thus reducing the chance of crop theft from passing motorists)
-
Helps prevent the stomata from drying out (as humidity increases and evaporation decreases within the sheltered area).
-
Reduce soil erosion.
-
Insulate the trees (by moderating temperatures).
-
Act as an additional fence.
-
Increase successful pollination (as bees will be less affected by wind)
-
Increase the efficiency of irrigation and pollination (as the drift of chemicals and water is reduced)
-
Create a decorative border
-
Provide additional sources of income (eg: from wood or fruits)
-
Acts as a field buffer for organic farms
-
Increase crop yields

Windscreens are especially useful for keeping plants hydrated during flowering and fruiting, as the flowers and fruits contain additional stomata that increase the transpiration rate by up to 16 times!
